Your process is nearly finished and you are certain that you made the right decision. Now your body is going through a phase involving a variety of changes and recovery, and you might experience light, irregular bleeding for up to four weeks or until the start of your menstruation. And after this, what next? Here are some recommendations you should follow after your medical abortion.
The first days
Remember that a bit of a fever is common during the first two days but this will go away of its own accord, without you having to take anything. You might also feel some discomfort similar to when you have your period, but this will lessen as time goes on. You may also note a slight swelling of your breasts, tension and even a little liquid in your nipples, but does be alarmed, those symptoms will soon disappear and if you want to speed up the process, we recommend the use of a top that is tight enough not to stimulate your nipples unnecessarily.
Days off
Although a medical abortion is not very invasive, it is similar to a miscarriage so you have to realize that you should not make plans to travel or do activities that involve any physical effort. Which is why it would also be ideal for someont to be with you and keep you company for at least two days after the abortion.
Recommendations for after a medical abortion
The care and hygiene of your vagina is of the utmost importance, so after your abortion you should not insert anything at all into it, such as a menstrual cup, tampons or sexual toys, or immerse yourself in water in swimming pools and/or jacuzzis. As for sexual intercourse, don’t worry, just wait until you feel safe and your body has recovered.
What to expect?
Tiredness and cramping is normal for the first couple of days after the abortion. Consider that a natural process was induced in your body and that, although it may not have been that intense, it did require a barely perceptible physical effort, so you will need some time off to get back to your usual state.
It is important to know that you might note the presence of dark clots between the first three to six days after the abortion, as that blood has built up in your womb and will be expelled through your own body after that time.
Follow-up
Don’t forget that Telefem has a follow-up agenda after the procedure is performed in order to ascertain that everything was done properly and your body is gradually recovering. The health professional that saw you in the first consultation may monitor the evolution of your state of health, so you may contact them by WhatsApp and have your doubts and worries answered.
